I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!
My holiday was full of wonderful food and fabulous company. My poor hubby had to work on Thanksgiving, so I joined my mom, sister, and brother-in-law in visiting my nephew on Thanksgiving Day. We had turkey, sweet potatoes, garden salad, cranberry sauce, devilled eggs, stuffing, green bean casserole, pistachio salad, Hawaiin rolls, and several different pies. We had a great visit and watched a couple Christmas movies after our feast.
That's not all, though. I hosted my step-kids and grandchildren on Sunday. Because my husband missed our feast at my nephew's house, I wanted to make a special meal for him. I started things off with a charcuterie board, which my youngest grandson absolutely loved. We had turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, cheesy corn, stuffing, garden salad, hot rolls, pistachio salad, and three different pies. My hubby's favorite part of the meal was my sister's peanut butter pie.
Unfortunately, my sister was sick on Sunday, so she did not join us for the celebration. Mom, who was recovering from her own bug, dropped off the food she and my sister had lovingly prepared, waved, and went home to rest. I wish she could have stayed, but I know she needed to relax to shake off the last vestiges of her virus.
My brother-in-law stayed home with my sister to make sure she ate good food and drank plenty of fluids. I missed them terribly, but I understand my sister's decision to stay home and appreciate her not exposing the rest of the family to whatever bug she picked up.
After our Sunday Thanksgiving, we all kicked back with our full bellies and visited with each at other about nothing in particular. We watched two of the grandkids play board games, color giant pages, and fight over certain toys.
Overall, I had a great Thanksgiving with my family. I hope they enjoyed our together time as much as I did. I missed my oldest grandson, who was with his dad for the weekend. I hope he had a wonderful time with that side of his family.
Family is important and precious. We don't always get along together but making the effort to play nice with each other reduces our regrets in years to come.
